Michael and James have reviewed over 130 movies this year on the podcast and with so many movies watched we have some strong opinions on this years movie selection and we even throw in some classic movies that you should pick up.

The Movie Podcast’s #1 Blu-ray Pick

nightmare The Nightmare Before Christmas

James: While this wasn’t a new release this year by far the best looking Blu-ray that I have ever seen. This is your reference disk and it is an amazing movie as well.

Michael: I have to agree. Such an amazing movie. I am picking this as a personal favorite. I find that I mention this movie a lot. It holds a special place in my heart.

Must Own New Releases on Blu-ray

Tron

Tron Legacy

James: Hands down my pick of the year for Blu-ray purchase is Tron Legacy. Simply stunning movie in 2D or 3D and is by far a reference disk for your home theater setup. The full bundle also comes with the 3D/2D/DVD/Digital Copy and also the original Tron on Blu-ray, or simply the 2 Disc might be fine for you either way you can’t go wrong.

Michael: Great visuals and a fantastic soundtrack. Oh and Olivia Wilde in black latex…

crazy Crazy, Stupid, Love

Michael:
I really really enjoyed this movie. I enjoyed the actors, There relationships and chemistry that developed. It had a great combination of humor and sweetness. I enjoy its down to earth, touching, romantic plot.
adjust Adjustment Bureau

Michael: This movie really stuck with me for a while. For whatever reason I kept thinking back at how much I enjoyed it. I thought that Matt Damon and Emily Blunt did a fantastic job. Loved watching them together. Nice combination of romance and sci-fi. Interesting twists and take.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Sucker Punch
    • James:  Hands down just a beautiful movie and a beautiful Blu-ray disk. Even if the story wont blow you away the gorgeous Emily Browning will along with the amazing soundtrack.
  • Summer Wars
    • James: I am not a huge Anime fan myself, but we got to check out Summer Wars this year and it was awesome. Amazing CG work and a really great story this one is a great pick up.
  • Hobo with a Shotgun
    • James:  B movie: Check, Horrible Plot Line: Check, Over the top violence: Check. This movie has it all, and while it is a bit difficult to watch it is a joy.
  • Tree of Life
    • Michael: While neither James or myself enjoyed this, it WAS beautiful. For no other reason you may want to pick it up.
  • 127 Hours
    • Michael:  Awesome film that will look FANTASTIC in glorious Blu-ray majesty.
